Energy Efficient Buildings in Turkmenistan: International Experience

The results of preliminary energy audit in buildings of Ashgabat, selected as pilots under the UNDP/GEF project “Improving energy efficiency in the residential building sector of Turkmenistan”, were presented at a workshop organized as part of the project on 20 November 2012.

Introducing energy efficient practices for “greener economy”

Guided by the National Strategy on Climate Change, Turkmenistan is making steps for development of a “green economy”, in which introduction of energy efficiency and energy savings in residential houses plays a catalytic role.

Two energy efficient residential houses are currently being built in Ashgabat as pilot, in order to save up to 25 percent of energy consumption in such buildings.

Energy Efficient Buildings in Turkmenistan: Incentive Mechanisms

Issues related to creating incentives for designing and constructing energy efficient buildings have been discussed at a workshop organized on 11 December 2012 by the UNDP/GEF project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Buildings Sector of Turkmenistan.”

The workshop brought together a wide range of local experts from builders to staff of municipal housing services, who are involved in the design of new houses and renovation of the existing housing stock in Turkmenistan.
